Hair removal with Hirsutism
28 October, 2024
Hirsutism is the excessive growth of hair in females in areas that are not typically hairy, such as male-pattern areas (upper lip, sideburns, chin, neck, areolas, chest, etc.). This occurs because this hair is androgen-dependent, and in hirsute women, there is a noticeable hormonal imbalance. This issue, known as hypertrichosis, can be accompanied by other problems directly associated with this androgenic manifestation, such as acne, seborrhea, obesity, and others.
It is important that if a client with hypertrichosis in male-pattern areas visits our beauty center, we determine whether we are dealing with hirsutism (hypertrichosis caused by hormonal imbalance) or genetic hypertrichosis, for example. We are not medical professionals and cannot diagnose this condition. However, it is important to alert the client, if they have not already done so, to seek an accurate medical diagnosis.
If a hormonal disorder is indeed detected, which affects the growth and appearance of hair in uncommon areas, it is essential to inform our client that depilatory waxes and Starpil protocols are ideal for waxing all body areas, including the face. This way, hair takes longer to grow back. Shaving, in these cases, is not a suitable solution because, besides only cutting the hair without addressing its root (which makes the hair appear quickly), it also irritates the skin, whether it is physical or chemical shaving.
If it is confirmed that a hormonal disorder is causing our client’s hirsutism, it is important to make them aware that their hair grows more abundantly and at a faster rate than usual.
At Starpil, we always recommend combining roll-on systems for larger areas, such as legs, with low-melting-point waxes for more sensitive areas, like the bikini line, underarms, face, areolas, and the linea alba.
As always, achieving perfect results depends on using pre- and post-waxing cosmetics, proper application techniques, and consistently approaching the waxing process as a true beauty treatment.
